The black turmeric crop is mainly grown medicinally. Its plants are the shape of a banana in appearance. Black turmeric is also known as Narkachur. Black turmeric is most commonly used for curing disease and for cosmetics. Its plant is about 30-60 cm high, and its leaves are broadly circular. On its upper surface, circular blue and purple mid-vein are made.

Soil, Climate & Temperature

Field Preparation

After ploughing, 15 to 17 carts of old rotten cow dung in the field should be mixed well in the ground since the cultivation of black turmeric is done medicinally.

After adding manure to the field’s soil, two to three slant ploughing of the field should be done to mix it well. After this, water should be applied to the area. Transplanting Method
Two methods do transplantation of black turmeric plants. Its plants are transplanted first in the form of tubers and second in the form of plants. For transplanting in the form of tubers, about 20 quintals of tubers are required in one hectare of field. After that, they should be planted in the area. While transplanting the tubers, make sure that the tubers are entirely healthy.
Meadow is prepared in the field for transplanting as a plant. For this, there should be a distance of one to one and a half feet between each weed and 25 to 30 cm between each plant. The rainy season is considered more suitable for transplanting its tubers because, during this time, its plants get an appropriate environment to grow.
Irrigation
Black turmeric plants require more irrigation. Its tubers are transplanted in moist soil. For this, the first irrigation should be done immediately after transplanting the tuber. In the summer season, its plants require irrigation in 10 to 12 days, while in the winter, its plants should be watered in an interval of 15 to 20 days. Its plants should be watered only when needed during the rainy season.
Weed Control
Chemical methods should not be used for weed control in black turmeric crops. For this, weeding should be done only in a natural way to control the weeds. The first weeding of its plants should be done after 25 to 30 days of transplanting. After this, two to three more weeding should be done at an interval of 20 days. Whenever weed is seen in the field, it should be weeded.
